PRISONERS OF CONSCIENCE

Laws covering " public disorder " , "contempt" , " disrespect" , " dangerousness" and " aggression" were used in politically motivated prosecutions, or threats of prosecution, against government opponents.

In January, the authorities released five prisioners of conscience along with a group of more than 50 people believed to have been imprisioned for political reasons.

The brothers Vianco, Django and Alexeis Vargas Martín, were released from prison. The three men had been detained since December 2012 and were sentenced in june 20174 between two-and-a-half and four years imprisonment for " public disorder "

Prisoner of consciense Ciro Alexis Casanova Peréz was released upon completion of his sentence in June 2015. He had been found guilty in December 2014. 


POLITICAL BACKGROUND

The Cuban revolution has represented an important event in the history of America as the first and most succerful of several leflist revolutions that happended in various countries of the continent. The regime resulting from the revolution - considered totalitarian by numerous observes, has adversity, remaining afloat even after the fall of the socialist bloc.


RELIGION

Cuba is mostly a Catholic countri ( 60 % )

In some cases Catholiscim is greatly modifiel and influenced by syncretis, which was brought to cuba by slaves from Africa. Cuba is home to a wide variety of syncretic religions of cultural in much of Africa.


FREEDOMS OF EXPRESSION AND SOCIATION

Goverment critics continued to experience harasment, " acts of repudation " , and politically motivated criminal prosecutions. The judicial system remained under political control.

The government continued to control access to the internet and blocked and filtered websites, limitinf access to information and criticism of the state.


EDUCATIONS

Education in Cuba is normally free at all levels and controlled by the ministry for Education. In 1961 the government nationalized all private educational institutions and itroduced a state-directed education system.


HEALTH CARE

The Cuban national health system depends of the Ministry of Health of Cuba, which is the agency in charge of directing, executing and controlling the implementation of the State's policy on public health.

 Citizens' expenses are outpatient medications, hearing aids, orthopedic stomatologic and lenses, wheelchairs, crutches and similar items.


FREEDOM OF EXPRESSIONS

The evolution of Cuba in terms of freedom of expression is animal.

The Inter-American commisions on Human rights, maintains that it is the contry of America where more journalists are imprisoned for professional reasons.


REFUGES

In total there are 33.501 refugges in Cuba.

Cubans have several special laws that make it easier for them to enter the United states, susch as the Cuban adjustment law, wchich allows the to becoeme permanent residents a year and a day entering the country


TRAVEL

All restrictions and travel controls imposed by the Cubsn government have been abolished.

From that date, any Cuban citizen, with a valid passport, can leave the country at will, without permission or impediment of the Cuban authorities.


RIGHTS OF WOMAN

The woman since the very triumph of the Revolution have been active subjects and main beneficiaries of the revolutionary conquests. As part of the struggle for social justice began the battle for the full exercise of the equal rights and opportunities of women and men in all areas and at all levels of national life.
